I took a stroll outside today
and was surprised to see,
This old guy resting beneath
our giant maple tree...
Now I was sorta curious,
just what he was doing there,
And when I asked he said
"Sit down, I have a story to share."
So I thought... and why not?
The guy seemed sorta nice,
He shared his picnic lunch
with me and gave me this advice...
"You know my friend, I've
been around, seen families everywhere,
And the ones who have the
most are the ones who care."
I contemplated this a bit
then asked just what he meant,
"Well you see, my young
friend, it's in the gifts they've sent.
For those who care send
hugs and dreams you simply can't replace,
And memories of misty smiles
one simply can't erase."
"So what you're really telling
me, love is the best to give?"
"No, my friend, I'm telling
you that when you care you live."
"Ah, I see..." I said to
him, although it wasn't clear...
"You kinda mean I come alive
through people I hold dear?"
Tilting his head he turned
to me, a sparkle in his eyes,
And for that minute time
stood still ... I felt profoundly wise.
"My young friend, I think
you knew, but never understood...
And now that we have finally
met, your story shall be good."
"But don't forget to pass
it on, this gift you have to share,
To show the others in your
life how much you really care...
So others then may do the
same and soon the world shall be
A better place for all to
live, rich with hugs and dreams."
